Humility

What the Scriptures have to say about meekness and humility.

“The people I treasure most are the humble, they depend only on me and tremble when I speak.” — ISAIAH 66:2

Our God is a God who delights in the humble and the meek. Humility attracts the presence of god., unleashes the power of God, and pours out the provision of God. One of the prerequisites to spiritual revival is humility. “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves…” (2 chronicles 7:14)

To be humble does not mean that we see ourselves as inferior or incapable of doing and becoming something great. Such thoughts are nothing but false humility. Thinking this way deprives us of the joy of appreciating the gifts, talents, and abilities that God gave us. As a result, we became ungrateful and insecure…but not humble.

True humility is the ability to see ourselves as God sees us. It is coming to a position of knowing who God is and who are in His sight. We realize our littleness in comparison to his bigness.

We practice humility when we give up our right to be right, when we die to ourselves, when we have a sense of our own unworthiness and are thrilled that God would use us in ministry at all.

We are humble when we recognize we still have a whole lot more to learn, and how much we need to encounter God everyday. We are humble when we tremble every time He speaks to us. His Word gripping our hearts in fear and reverent awe.

We become humble when we see ourselves as empty vessels waiting for God to fill us and when we recognize that we are “nothing” being shaped by God into “something”.

  1. I want to share another verse from the Bible about humility that I consider a golden rule, "He who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself, will be exalted by God."

  2. I couldn't agree more... To be humble doesnt mean that we see ourselves as inferior or incapable of becoming great, but the ability to see ourselves as God sees us.

  6. It is great that you define the differentiation between insecurity and humility because those two are often confusing our understanding of the terms.

  7. Let me add a definition of your subject. It says "True Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less" by C.S. Lewis.

  12. I agree too with your definition. I also believe that we are humble if we acknowledge that we cannot do anything away from God.
